TIRANA, January 22/ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali stated today at the plenary session of the Parliament gathered to consider the draft law, “On ratification of the accession agreement of the Republic of Albania, represented by Prime Minister Edi Rama, to the Board of Peace Charter”, that this is a moment of particular significance for the way Albania is being seen and heard in the international arena.
Spiropali stated that a few days ago President of the United States of America Donald Trump send a special invitation to Prime Minister Edi Rama, which, according to her, positions Albania as a founding member of a new international mechanism called the Board of Peace.
“This is not just a formal invitation, but it positions our country as a founding member of a new international mechanism. This invitation is not just formal, but carries participation from the very beginning in building of this mechanism. This is important”, said Spiropali.
She stressed that this matter should not be seen as a party debate or a clash of views between the ruling majority and the opposition.
“This is not a party issue. It is not a majority or opposition matter. This is an issue of the Albanian state and the way we understand ourselves and our role in the world”, the minister said.
Addressing the MPs in the hall, Spiropali acknowledged that political differences are normal in a parliament, but stressed that there are moments when these divisions do not help.
“In this hall, we have political differences, and this is normal. But, there are moments when these differences do not help us, and this is one of them”, she stressed. /gj.m/a.f/p.s./
