TIRANA, January 17/ATA/ Today it’s the 558th death anniversary of our National Hero, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg (1405-January 17, 1468).

George Kastrioti Skanderbeg went down in history as a great man of his time forcing the Ottoman army to retreat.

Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs commemorated the National Hero of the Albanians today. A post in the social media reads that, “In Albanian history, his figure remains a permanent guide for the coming generations”.

The ministry holds in high esteem the hero who illuminated the national conscience, inspired the Renaissance and became an immortal symbol of resistance, freedom and human dignity.

“His legacy continues to lead us towards unity, progress and a European vision. Eternal glory,” the post reads.

Gjergj Kastrioti stopped Ottoman expansion towards Europe, earning the gratitude of European states and the Papacy of Rome, while he was alive, and much more so after his death. /e.i/j.p/p.s./
