TIRANA, Jan 16 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Friday that work will begin on the construction of a new parliament building, as he set out priorities for the new parliamentary session.
Speaking at a meeting marking the opening of the new legislative year of the ruling Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Rama said the administration of parliament needs to be modernised and supported by significant technological upgrades.
“The administration of parliament must be modernised and backed by an important technological transformation,” Rama said, adding that clear timelines would also be set for the construction of the new parliament building.
He said the initiatives are complementary and aimed at creating more space and positive momentum for lawmakers’ work.
Rama also urged Socialist Party MPs to maintain a strong presence in their constituencies.
The government head reiterated that negotiations for Albania’s accession to the European Union must wrap up by 2027.
Rama added that the next task would be sustained political engagement with European capitals, parliaments and governments to secure ratification of Albania’s EU accession.
