TIRANA, Jan 15 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Thursday told a conference of university rectors that Albania’s higher education law requires targeted revisions to reflect changes over time and lessons learned from its implementation.
Speaking at the Conference of Rectors, Rama held an open discussion with around 40 rectors from public and private universities on the quality of higher education institutions and scientific research in Albania.
PM Rama described the experience with the current law as largely positive, noting that it had been drafted in close cooperation with the academic community.
He said the upcoming review would follow the same collaborative approach and stressed that the process would not overturn the law but introduce necessary adjustments.
Rama said preparatory work would be carried out within a reasonable timeframe, without waiting for the next parliamentary session, while formal legislative procedures could be completed during the current session or early in the next one.
The government head also underlined the need to establish a joint working group to address concerns and proposals, with the aim of further improving the legal framework for higher education.
