TIRANA, January 14 /ATA/ Following the escape of detainee Altin Ndoci from Durrës Regional Hospital, Minister of Justice Besfort Lamallari called today a special meeting of the heads of prisons in the country.
Lamallari said that after dismissal of director of Durrës prison following the serious incident and the immediate suspension of the prison heads, he has requested urgent measures to strengthen control, increase security and prevent the introduction of illegal items into prisons.
“I requested from the General Directorate of Prisons to conduct an assessment of the security parameters of Durrës prison, considering the transfer of dangerous convicts or detainees to high-security prisons,” said Lamallari.
The minister expressed his opinion and ordered the Internal Control Service in the Prison System to increase the frequency of controls in all prisons in the country, to prevent any possible attempt to violate security.
“Security in prisons is an absolute priority and no form of negligence or violation of standard procedures will be tolerated”, continued Lamallari.
Eight employees of the Prison Police in Durrës have also been arrested for this incident. /e.i/r.e/a.f/p.s./
