TIRANA, Jan 9 /ATA/ Today, dozens of citizens affected by the floods gathered once again in protest in front of the Durres Municipality.
Holding banners and megaphones, they demanded immediate action to address and improve the situation in the coastal city.
Citizens expressed their frustration with the authorities following the massive flooding that has affected both urban and peripheral areas of the city this week. The heavy rainfall in recent days has caused damage to homes, agricultural land, and infrastructure. In the protest today, citizens reiterated their calls for accountability and solutions to the prevalent situation.
Representatives from the Democratic Party and the “Shqipëria Bëhet” movement were also in attendance of the rally.
Meanwhile, residents from the former Wetlands area and other flood-hit areas of Durrës joined the protest, as they continue to cope with the fallout from this week’s torrential rains which have damaged their homes, businesses, and farmland.
Citizens called for more immediate and concrete actions from the authorities to prevent further damage to homes and businesses.
The protesters demanded a thorough and accurate assessment of the damages caused by the flooding, followed by the immediate distribution of deserved compensation. Many of them claimed they had yet to receive compensation for losses incurred due to last year’s adverse weather, as well as previous disasters.
