TIRANA, Jan 5 /ATA/ – Albania is introducing new mechanisms to strengthen local government capacity, transparency and financial support, with the aim of improving services for citizens, Minister of State for Local Government Ervin Demo said on Monday.
Demo said the Local Self-Government Academy, the Performance-Based Grant and the Mountains Package were concrete instruments designed to enhance municipalities’ operational capacity and governance standards.
In a video message, Demo said the academy had been conceived as an institution that would address specific challenges faced by local authorities and contribute to raising the standards of local governance.
“The next 24 months will be particularly challenging for municipalities,” Demo said. “They are already aware that they must be prepared for a major wave of changes in how they operate and, in the standards, they are expected to meet.”
He said the new mechanisms aim to strengthen local government performance and ensure higher-quality, more efficient public services for citizens across the country.
