Berisha: Alarm bells ring from Washington over government corruption

TIRANA, Dec 27 /ATA/ The Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha declared today from Korçë that “alarm bells are ringing from Washington” about the government’s corruption and its links to drugs and criminal activity.

During the “Foltorja” tour, speaking with citizens and supporters, Berisha stressed that the Democratic Party continues to be the most resilient opposition force in the country, despite years of attempts to marginalize and weaken it.

“As we mark our 35th anniversary, we stand as the only party across all former communist countries that remains active, resilient, and confident in victory. Unlike any other political force in the history of pluralist Europe, we have endured the most unjust and brutal attacks, the most shameful attempts to dismantle us in the so-called ‘Albania without opposition’ project. We faced criminal efforts to divide and fragment us, deep isolation, and the strongest Western-backed political pressures in the nation’s history. Yet, we triumphed, because we stood up for eternal truths—of humanity, civilization, the nation, the city, the family, and the country,” Berisha stated.

He stated that resolutions adopted by international political bodies have highlighted serious issues in Albania, including the concentration of power, the undermining of pluralism, and the risk of elections being reduced to a mere farce.

Berisha described the Democratic Party as a political force that has defended fundamental democratic and Western values, adding that these causes have already gained international support, according to him.

“You can now hear the alarm bells ringing from Washington over the corruption of Edi Rama’s government and its ties to drugs and crime. We triumphed!” stated the leader of the Democratic Party.
