MoIE: There is no EU decision concerning Albania’s energy sector

TIRANA, Dec 24 /ATA/ The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy affirms that neither the European Union nor its institutions have ever issued, nor currently hold, any decision regarding Albania’s energy sector.

In a statement to the media, the MoIE decries these reports as malicious disinformation and false, deliberately misleading news concerning the energy sector.
“We unequivocally state that there has never been, nor is there currently, any decision by the EU (or its institutions) regarding Albania. Any such claims are entirely media fabrications. The recent discussions have been limited to the Energy Secretariat, a technical body specifically created to assist non-member countries and promote the development of the energy sector in line with EU standards,” the MoIE announces.
As further highlighted in the statement, Albania is among the countries with the most stable and positive performance in implementing the Energy Community Treaty, a recognition clearly reflected in the relevant international reports. Attempts to present the country as problematic are false and ill-intentioned.

The statements and articles published in recent hours, as noted in the declaration, are deliberate acts of defamation, intended to discredit one of Albania’s most successful sectors. This success is clearly documented under Chapter 15 of the EU accession negotiations, where the energy sector is acknowledged as one of the areas with genuine and measurable progress.
“We firmly stress that no official report from the Energy Community mentions any sanctions or reasons for non-compliance regarding the Roskovec thermo-power station, floating power plants, the interconnection network, or any other issues. Their inclusion in these reports is a deliberate manipulation, entirely unsubstantiated, aimed solely at harming Albania’s reputation in the energy sector and its European integration process, clearly advancing the malicious agenda of various actors currently involved,” the statement reads.
The MoIE assures that the relevant institutions will not tolerate misinformation and will take action against any efforts to spread public disinformation or defamation, guaranteeing transparency, integrity, and the continued advancement of reforms in the energy sector.
