Kosovo sends humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza Strip

PRISHTINA, December 13/ATA/ A ship carrying humanitarian aid from Kosovo for Palestinians in war-torn Gaza has departed from the port of Mersin in Turkey for the Palestinian enclave, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Saturday.

In a Facebook post, Kurti wrote that the shipment, worth 500,000 euros, includes tents, food packages, blankets and 158,000 hot food rations for the local residents in need.

Kurti’s government had allocated the money for the humanitarian shipment in January, but its delivery was only made possible now, Kurti wrote, after the ceasefire reached in October, brokered by US President Donald Trump.

Kurti added the humanitarian aid, “represents Kosovo’s commitment as part of international solidarity to support the civilian population facing immense hardship in Gaza.”

The Gaza War was sparked by an October 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel, which killed 1,200 people and abducted 251 others. Israel’s retaliatory war in Gaza has since then killed more than 70,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities. /p.s./
