Ibrahimaj: Albania emerging as a regional development platform

TIRANA, Dec 10 /ATA/ The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, stated today that Albania is entering a new phase of economic transformation, in which investment, exports, and the green transition are playing a central role in the country’s development.

In her address at the forum ‘Albania’s Steady Rise as a Regional Economic Centre,’ the Minister highlighted the positive trajectory of the Albanian economy and the strategic pathways shaping the country’s vision up to 2030.
Ibrahimaj highlighted that the Albanian economy has transitioned from a consumption- and services-driven model to a modernised economy prioritising productivity, innovation, and domestic value creation.

Over the past five years, we have witnessed steady growth, declining unemployment and public debt, and inflation kept below the Bank of Albania’s target. These indicators demonstrate that Albania is well-positioned for an even more accelerated pace of development,’ the Minister remarked.

Ibrahimaj stressed that EU negotiations are a practical roadmap for economic modernisation, with initial chapters focusing on the single market and higher production and competitiveness standards, requiring full engagement from both government and business.

The Minister also drew attention to the expansion and industrialisation of exports. She announced that the new export strategy, set to be approved this year, seeks to move Albania towards end-product manufacturing and stronger integration into European supply chains.
Albania’s Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, emphasised that foreign investments should drive technological advancement and added value, not just production. She highlighted the green transition as a major economic opportunity, noting Albania’s potential to become a net energy exporter by 2030, and called on businesses to invest in smart technologies, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction to boost competitiveness.

The Minister placed particular emphasis on human capital, describing it as ‘the foundation of any sustainable transformation.’ She highlighted that digital and green developments are reshaping labour market demands, making it essential for education and the business sector to work together to ensure young people acquire contemporary skills.

Minister Delina Ibrahimaj highlighted that strong participation from domestic and international investors demonstrates confidence in Albania’s economy, describing the country as an emerging regional development platform where policy and investment intersect to drive sustainable, long-term transformation.
