TIRANA, Dec 2 /ATA/ – Velipoja Beach in northern Albania was recently hit by heavy pollution, with large amounts of plastic and other waste washed ashore by water currents.

Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) has released images showing the extent of the environmental damage at one of the country’s most visited summer destinations.

Municipal cleanup crews from Shkodra have been working intensively along the coastline to clear the debris.

ATA photojournalist Florian Abazaj captured scenes of both the polluted beach and the ongoing cleanup efforts at Velipoja, which attracts thousands of holidaymakers each year.
