Customs system, fully harmonized with EU standards by 2030

TIRANA, Nov 27 /ATSH/ The strategy for the modernization and harmonization of Albania’s customs information systems with those of the European Union for the period 2025–2030, which was approved one day ago by the Council of Ministers, aims to meet EU standards and requirements, ensuring a fully harmonized and advanced customs infrastructure. This process will enable Albania’s integration into the European single market, making the customs administration more efficient and transparent.

The strategy was developed by the General Directorate of Customs, in partnership with the National Agency for Information Society and UNCTAD, as well as with technical assistance from DG TAXUD.

The document outlines the development of key systems for managing customs procedures, certificate exchange, risk management, and the implementation of other systems that support European standards.

The main objective of this strategy is for Albania to have a fully harmonized customs system with the EU Customs Code by 2030.

The implementation of this strategy is expected to bring several benefits, such as streamlining customs procedures, shortening clearance time, and enhancing operational efficiency.

Additionally, this will improve the ability of Albanian businesses to be more competitive in international markets, as procedures will be simplified and administrative costs will be reduced.

In addition, the advanced risk management system will help enhance national security by preventing smuggling and cross-border illegal activities.

This modernization of the customs systems is a significant step towards Albania’s integration into the European Union and supports the country’s accession process, ensuring a customs administration that operates in accordance with EU standards. /j.p/sm/
