Berisha pledges ongoing fight against narco-state

TIRANA, Nov 23 /ATA/ The Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha expressed his gratitude to the CDI for passing the resolution on Albania, asserting that the country has turned into Europe’s sole narco-state. He further claimed that Albanian cocaine cartels control the European market.

Berisha stressed that the economy is in decline, with the construction sector kept afloat by illicit money. He added that over the past ten years more than one million Albanians have left the country.

“‘If you look at our economy, it has been severely damaged by drug-related billionaires. Industrial and agricultural production, as well as exports, are suffering repeated setbacks. Meanwhile, there is one sector that continues to flourish, and that is construction. The construction index in Albania is three times higher than the EU average,’ Berisha stated.

“In the past decade, 1,099,000 Albanians have left for the EU alone, not to mention those who have emigrated to other parts of the world,” Berisha said. He welcomed the resolution and stressed that the Democratic Party will persist in highlighting this situation until European partners recognise the severity of the threat.

“In Europe, no one is willing to listen when we speak about the narco-state. This is a serious problem. We do it for the sake of our nation, but also for the sake of other nations.”

“We appreciate the adoption of this resolution, despite the difficulties we face. I can assure you that we will never cease fighting and exposing the dire situation in our country, with the hope that, in time, European institutions and partners will acknowledge that drugs pose a serious threat to the security of their nations,” Berisha stated.
