PRISHTINA, Nov 19 /ATA/ – Kosovo Assembly will hold two extraordinary plenary sessions on Wednesday, focusing on key legislative issues and culminating in a vote for the new government, a vote that could push the country into a snap election next month.
The session for the election of the new government will commence at 2:00 PM on the final day of the constitutional mandate for the current government, after President Vjosa Osmani formally tasked Glauk Konjufca of the Self-Determination Movement (LVV) on November 4 with forming a new cabinet.
In line with parliamentary practice, Konjufca is expected to outline his program and introduce his new cabinet to the 120-member legislature. A majority of at least 61 votes will be required for approval.
After being nominated by the LVV, Konjufca stated his preference for cooperation with other parliamentary parties but ruled out any formal coalition agreements. He emphasized the need for the support of lawmakers to avoid snap elections in December, ensuring the country has a functioning government at least until April, when a new president must be elected.
Meanwhile, LVV leader Albin Kurti has dismissed the possibility of forming a coalition with other Albanian parties, citing what he described as a “hybrid hatred” directed at him by those parties.
Kurti had previously been tasked with forming the new government on October 11, but his efforts were unsuccessful.
According to the Constitution, the first mandate for prime minister is granted to the leader of the largest party. Kurti’s LVV won the February 9 elections but did not secure enough seats to form a government without collaborating with other parties.
