TIRANA, Nov 18 /ATA/ The importance of the Albanian language to national identity was highlighted by students from the Ballet School in Tirana, who called for its protection.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the students’ message today, stating that “writing the Albanian language correctly and beautifully is the greatest tribute we can pay to our language.”
Since the 1990s, the Albanian language has undergone numerous political and social changes that have directly impacted linguistic developments.
November also serves as a reminder of a significant historical event, the Congress of Manastir, held from 14 to 22 November 1908.
22 November, Albanian Alphabet Day, is highly symbolic, marking the most significant moment of unity for the Albanian people.
The Congress of Manastir is recognised as the most important event for Albanians in the early 20th century, which ultimately paved the way for the declaration of Albania’s independence on 28 November 1912.
For Albanians in North Macedonia, this day is also celebrated as a national holiday. In Manastir, the Museum of the Albanian Language Alphabet displays around 56 photographs of participants and 230 documents, available both in digital and paper formats.
