TIRANA, Nov 12 /ATA/ -By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Wednesday the creation of a new agency to provide affordable housing for various social categories, with support from the state.
Speaking at a public meeting with residents of Tirana’s Administrative Unit No. 5 on the draft 2026 budget, Rama said the government will merge the National Planning Agency with the National Housing Agency to establish a new body – namely the National Planning and Housing Development Agency.
According to him, the agency will introduce “a completely new approach” to housing policy.
“We are talking about affordable housing, not just what the market offers. Affordable housing does not mean only social housing,” Rama said.
He added that the plan aims to make housing available at reasonable prices with state support.
“This agency is being set up to put the plan on track year by year, thanks also to strong partnerships we have established with several European countries,” Rama concluded.
