Judges’ association defends magistrate against media attacks

TIRANA, Nov 11/ATA/ – The National Association of Judges has condemned recent media reports targeting Supreme Court judge Asim Vokshi, saying the coverage unfairly questioned his integrity and reputation.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Association criticized claims suggesting Vokshi had served as an informant or agent for secret services, describing them as personal attacks that undermine both his dignity and the institutional credibility of the country’s judiciary.

While reaffirming the essential role of media in a democratic society, the Judges’ Association stressed that freedom of expression cannot justify denigrating magistrates, particularly during sensitive nomination processes.

“The exercise of these freedoms must be responsible, ethical, and fact-based, so the media does not become a tool for pressure or defamation of judges,” the statement said.

The Association urged media outlets to uphold professional ethics and respect judicial independence, emphasizing that protecting the dignity of magistrates is crucial to maintaining public trust in the justice system.
