TIRANA, Nov 8 /ATA/ – Efforts to remove illegal constructions from public spaces across Albania are ongoing as part of a broader initiative to restore legality and foster development in local communities.
This initiative precedes the implementation of the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” program, which aims to restore legal order in urban areas and promote sustainable development.
“There’s no break,” Prime Minister Edi Rama wrote on social media on Saturday, sharing images of demolitions of illegal buildings in Shkodër, along with feedback from local citizens.
Many citizens have expressed support for the demolition of the illegal structures, noting that their removal was necessary as the buildings had obstructed city roads.
The Albanian government has intensified measures to strengthen territorial control, protect public spaces, enforce building permits, and penalize developers who violate regulations.
A significant number of violations have been reported by citizens through the dedicated portal “My Public Space,” where 15,357 cases have been submitted so far. Of these, 11,690 have been resolved, while 3,667 are still under review.
Described as a systematic intervention rather than a temporary campaign, this initiative, which began in July, continues to be a priority across the country.
