Tabaku: Draft law “On Gender Equality” is incomplete without changes to other laws

TIRANA, November 4/ATA/ Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku stated that the law “On Gender Equality” is incomplete as long as many provisions of this law require amendments to other laws.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Committee on Human Rights and Media, where there was discussed the draft law “On Gender Equality”, Tabaku stated that gender equality is not measured by words, but by deeds.

She brought to attention the case of mothers of children with autism or Down syndrome, who do the most difficult and valuable work with the daily care of their children, but which the state still does not recognize as work.

“There is a very large group of citizens who have problems. There are women who stay at home because they have children with autism, with Down syndrome. Is this group included here in unpaid work? Will we also have changes in the Labor Code regarding this? How will this be regulated with other laws such as the law on social insurance, on guardianship?”, said Tabaku.

According to her, the law will be complete when this is accompanied by other amendments.

“There should be also changed the Labor Code and many other legislations”, said Tabaku.

The draft law “On Gender Equality” is under review today in the parliamentary committees, where it has been accompanied by debates between the ruling majority and opposition MPs. /j.p/r.e/p.s./
