TIRANA, November 3/ATA/ There has been completed the project to declare Lake Shkodra as a UNESCO Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (TBR).

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared the news in the social media today, while stating that last weekend Lake Shkodra marked the anniversary of its declaration as a protected area.

Rama appreciated a great news the fact that the Ministry of Environment has taken another important step and filled out the application to the UNESCO to include Lake Shkodra in the “Man and the Biosphere” program and to add another Albanian jewel to the world heritage.

The inclusion of Lake Shkodra in UNESCO, known as an ecosystem of rare value, raises Albania’s profile in environmental diplomacy, while promoting the sustainable development of local communities and producing cooperation in the sustainable management of shared ecosystems.

This project aims to bring positive impact to local communities by creating new opportunities for sustainable development, in line with the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme.
