TIRANA, November 3/ATA/ At the 5th International Conference on Agriculture and Life Sciences organized by the Agricultural University of Tirana, Chairman of the Academy of Sciences Skënder Gjinushi stated that the conference takes place at a crucial moment for the country as the government has adopted a smart strategy, in which it is aimed that investment in scientific research and innovation reaches 1% of GDP. This means several-times increase of this indicator.
Head of the Academy said that in recent decades, the advances in biology, biotechnology, food safety, environmental sciences, veterinary public health, have shown that sustainable development cannot be achieved without a strengthened, integrated science with a European vision. In this context, the Academy of Sciences strongly supports:
– the promotion of multidisciplinary scientific research;
– the development of human resources for science and innovation;
– the strengthening of international cooperation;
– the inclusion of scientific expertise in the drafting of national policies, especially in their implementation.
Chairman Gjinushi stated that today, more than ever, there should be strengthened the links between knowledge and policy-making, between the laboratory and the economy and between science and society.
“The cooperation between our institutions will be expanded and further strengthened with the establishment of the new elite centers, already foreseen in the “Smart Strategy”, and especially Nanoalb. We see the new center as a joint creation with the Agriculture University of Tirana, University of Tirana, Polytechnic University, etc., because together we can add to it the vision, format and appropriate support”, said Gjinushi, who emphasized during his speech that in order to have European-level diplomas, European-level staff is needed and the staff should be trained only through scientific research. /j.p/p.s./
