TIRANA, October 24 /ATA/ The process of clearing up the public spaces from unauthorized constructions is underway throughout the country in context of “Urban Renaissance 2.0”. This is an Albanian government program launched in 2025 to reclaim public spaces by clearing unauthorized structures and transforming them into quality community areas.
Meanwhile, citizens themselves have reported many cases of violations on the “My Public Space”, the portal dedicated to this purpose, where so far there have been reported 14,358 cases. 10,671 of which have been resolved, while another 3,687 are currently under review.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media images of the clearing up process in the capital.
“We continue the work to clear up public spaces,” said Rama, alongside images of the dismantling of metal structures erected without permission by businesses, but also the demolition of car washes located in various neighborhoods of Tirana.
It is conceived as a systematic intervention on the ground and not a temporary action, this initiative, which began its implementation in July, is continuing with priority throughout the country.
The Albanian government has tightened measures to strengthen control over the territory, protect public spaces, implement construction permits qualitatively and punish builders who violate them.
To combat the phenomenon of unauthorized construction, the new Criminal Code provides for harsher penalties.
Another mechanism, which will be in the function of private entities, will be the new National Regulation which will legally define the business use of space.
