TIRANA, October 13 /ATA/ The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration announced at today’s meeting the vacancy for the position of Ombudsman, giving interested parties the opportunity to submit the necessary documentation to qualify as candidates, 20 days from the decision.
The opposition did not agree with the procedure, because according to it, the vacancy was announced once, during the previous legislature and is no longer necessary.
Chair of the Law Committee Ulsi Manja said that this argument of the opposition does not stand since some of the MPs of the previous legislature, who signed in support of the candidacies, are no longer members of the Assembly today, and as a result the previous procedure for announcing the vacancy is no longer valid.
The vacancy for the position of Ombudsman was announced for the second time with only 8 votes of the socialist MPs in the Committee, while 5 opposition MPs boycotted the vote.
Also, with 13 votes, there was declared a vacancy for the position of the Civil Service Oversight Commission.
The mandate of the current People’s Advocate Erinda Balanca ended in May 2022, but she has continued to stay in office while waiting for her successor for more than three years.
In the penultimate session of the previous legislature, the Democratic Party requested that the vote for the new People’s Advocate be urgently included in the agenda, requesting a vote on the proposed name by the DP, Besim Ndregjoni. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
