TIRANA, Oct 8 /ATA/ The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, has spoken out on the efforts to justify the tragic murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja.
Elisa Spiropali expressed deep shock over recent attempts to glorify the brutal killing of Judge Kalaja through a series of media publications, which were followed by a wave of disturbing comments directed at the victim.
Just as appalling is the attempt to justify the perpetrator’s extreme actions, which resulted in one death and left two others injured.
The hatred directed at the victims and the praise of the perpetrators, justified under the freedom of expression in the digital space, can never define a European Albania.
While negotiating with the EU to progressively align with the European standards of media and democratic ethics, it is essential to foster full awareness and reflection on upcoming legal measures that safeguard both individual dignity and freedom of speech.
Unverified reports glorifying the perpetrator and the wave of defamatory comments on social media targeting the victim can in no way represent the face of Albanian society.
The real Albania is much more than this; it embodies values, respect, and dignity.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Judge Kalaja’s family and stand in solidarity with judges, prosecutors, and all public servants of the Albanian state.
