PM Rama: Albania is not waiting, but running towards EU

TIRANA, Oct 2 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Thursday that Albania will be a significant added value to the European Union.

Speaking to the media upon his arrival in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the Joint Summit of the European Political Community, Rama addressed Albania’s path toward EU membership.

“We are not waiting; we are running. We are running very fast. We will be ready very soon, and it is up to the leaders in this room not to wait any longer but to embrace us and welcome us because we will be a great added value to the EU,” Rama said.

When asked if the EU could learn any lessons from Albania, Rama responded: “There are many, many lessons.”

“To act as a whole and to achieve convergence on everything related to security, which so far has not been the case. There is a lot of back-and-forth when it comes to information and data. And most importantly, not only to strengthen the military aspect but to have a European peace plan,” he added.

PM Rama hailed the format of the European Political Community Summit, saying “it is the best thing that has happened after the European Union itself.”

“It is the future of Europe. And the more we move in this direction, the better it is because, meanwhile, others are showing themselves to be quite powerful. The whole of Europe, in terms of population and economy, appears very weak precisely because it is not united,” he said.
