Opposition demands Assembly to repeat session and debate on government’s program

TIRANA, September 24 /ATA/ The Parliament gathered today in plenary session while the agenda carried the draft decision “On determining the composition of the permanent committees of the Parliament” and the draft decision “On determining the substitute members in the composition of the permanent committees of the Parliament”.

Before the approval of the minutes of the previous session where there was approved by 82 votes in favor, 0 against and 0 abstentions the political program of the government and the composition of the government, the opposition MPs requested a Parliamentary debate regarding the government program, objecting to the voting method in the last session.

MP of the Democratic Party Jorida Tabaku argued saying that it was the first time in 34 years that a government is sworn in without first discussing the program. Further on, she addressed Speaker of the Parliament Niko Peleshi saying that he cannot take away the right of debate from the opposition.

DP MP Belind Këlliçi also asked Speaker of the Assembly Niko Peleshi to correct the minutes of the previous plenary session, which was accompanied by strong debates.

He said that the September 18 session is a stain of shame for the Assembly and the Socialist Party.

“You cannot pass this session as if everything is normal,” he said, adding that, “for the most important session of sessions in 4 years to pass in just 25 minutes and only the Socialists to be heard, this is a stain of shame for this Assembly and for you.”

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa also requested a repeat of the last Parliamentary session, during which the new government program was presented, but which, according to her, was closed in an unprecedented manner after just 25 minutes.

Addressing Speaker of the Assembly Niko Peleshi, the leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha said that he marked the blackest record in the history of Albanian parliamentarism, in the history of Europe, in the history of the world, of any regime.

“The only act that this session can do for the minutes of the last session is to throw the session and the minutes in the trash”, said Berisha.

Meanwhile, the leader of the SP Parliamentary group Taulant Balla requested that they should proceed with the agenda of today’s session, i.e. the composition of the permanent Parliamentary committees.

Balla reminded that the opposition obstructed the speech of Prime Minister Edi Rama on the presentation of the government program and the composition of the government.

The draft decision “On the approval of the political program and composition of the government” has already been approved with 82 votes in favor, 0 against and 0 abstentions. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
