New Interior Minister vows action on urgent priorities

TIRANA, Sept 19 /ATA/ – Albania’s newly appointed Interior Minister, Albana Koçiu, pledged on Friday to advance the government’s key priorities and responsibilities, saying her leadership will be defined by action rather than words.

Koçiu, who officially took office today as the first woman to lead the Ministry of the Interior, was introduced by Prime Minister Edi Rama. In her remarks, she emphasized a commitment to meeting the institution’s pressing mandates and raising the standard of public service.

“Rightly so, you outlined several responsibilities of the Interior Ministry. These duties are clearly defined in law and on paper, but they demand far greater attention,” Koçiu said. “They are the urgent needs of our time, and we will address them together. With me at the helm, and alongside our team, the ministry will rise to the occasion and embody the highest standards of public service.”

She stressed the importance of integrity and professionalism among ministry staff, noting their role in upholding the foundations of a strong democratic state.

Referring to Albania’s European integration process, Koçiu said the country now stands at a historic crossroads.

“Europe is no longer just a vision – it is a tangible reality,” she said.

The Minister concluded by expressing confidence in her team’s ability to deliver results: “This is a ministry that should speak little but work hard. We will let our work speak for us.”
