Outgoing Foreign Minister hails “historic and transformative” term in office

TIRANA, Sept 16 /ATA/ – Albania’s outgoing Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, now a member of parliament after the May 11 elections, described his term in office as a “historic and transformative” period for the country.

Hasani highlighted key milestones achieved during his tenure, including the opening of 28 out of 33 EU accession negotiation chapters, Albania’s hosting of the European Political Community Summit in Tirana, and the completion of the country’s first term on the United Nations Security Council.

“My mandate as Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs ends today. It has been an honor to serve during a historic and transformative period for Albania,” Hasani said in a statement. “This period was marked by the end of our first mandate on the UN Security Council, the opening of 28 EU chapters, the EPC Summit in Tirana, and other achievements that strengthened Albania’s role in Europe and globally – amid profound challenges for our continent and beyond.”

Hasani will now chair the Parliamentary Committee on European and Foreign Affairs, continuing what he called “the same mission from a new perspective.”

“I am deeply grateful to the dedicated staff of the Foreign Ministry and to our international partners for their close cooperation. I look forward to my new role as Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European and Foreign Affairs,” he added.

Hasani served as Foreign Minister from September 2023 to September 2025.
