TIRANA, Sept 11 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama proposed Thursday establishment of 11 new permanent parliamentary committees directly linked to the chapters of Albania’s EU accession talks.
Addressing the Socialist Party (SP) Assembly, the government head stated that the move aims to modernize the parliament by improving focus, specialization, and accountability in line with EU integration requirements.
He highlighted the need to update committee structures, reduce member rotations, and clarify roles between majority and opposition.
The new committees will cover key areas such as economy, legal affairs, defense, education, health, environment, human rights, agriculture, culture, foreign affairs, and institutional oversight.
Rama emphasized that these reforms will strengthen parliament’s role in supporting Albania’s EU membership process.
Socialist leader Rama outlined the new committee structure, which includes: Committee on Economy, Employment, and Finance; Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration; Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense; Committee on Education, Science, and Sports; Committee on Health and Social Issues; Committee on Natural Resources, Infrastructure, and Sustainable Development; Committee on Human Rights and Public Information; Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development; Committee on Culture, Tourism, and Diaspora; Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs; Committee on Civic Initiatives, Cooperation, and Institutional Oversight
