TIRANA, September 10 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed the International Governance Conference today, in a panel discussion on Albania’s perspective in the integration process.
This event turned Tirana into an international hub for discussion on governance, bringing together political leaders, ambassadors, ministers, experts and representatives of international institutions.
The conference agenda was built on four main topics: Challenges and opportunities for governance in a rapidly changing world; European integration agenda for the Western Balkans; Public sector reforms in Albania for the next four years; Local governance and decentralization reforms.
In his speech delivered to the conference, PM Rama praised the benefits that the country has from the European integration process.
“The EU integration is a blessing process from the technical viewpoint because we can acquire the necessary knowledge of how to run the institutions,” Rama said.
Meanwhile, the prime minister also highlighted the advantage that new technology brings to this process.
“New technology can give countries like us the opportunity to take steps that would otherwise be impossible. If digital technology were not applicable, how would we be able to be in that position and offer hundreds of thousands of online services. Previously, there were millions of people standing in line to get a birth certificate”, emphasized Rama.
The prime minister also emphasized the advantage that Albania has from using artificial intelligence in the process of approximating legislation with the EU.
“Croatia took seven years, but we can do it in less than two years. It would be impossible without technology”, he added.
Focusing on public procurement, Rama appreciated that, “We have made considerable progress and now we aim to have the first model in Europe of public procurement through artificial intelligence”.
The prime minister emphasized that, “What needs to be done is to create a good model for our society based on what we have chosen by our free will, i.e. to be part of this community of countries which believes in certain things”.
“But, we cannot lecture on others that don’t want to be like us”, he said while referring to countries like those in the Middle East. /j.p/p.s./
