TIRANA, September 4/ATA/ The Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the working group for the drafting of the new Criminal Code, held today the second roundtable of the technical presentation of the draft of the new Criminal Code, before the start of the broad public consultations that will be held on this draft.
Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja took the opportunity to announce today that the current Criminal Code will undergo changes within the framework of negotiations for integration into the European Union. The minister underlined that Albania is required to reflect in the existing Criminal Code, within the month of October, about six directives that deal with several criminal offenses.
“Thus, within the framework of the negotiating cluster on the “Fundamentals”, Albania is required to reflect within October in the existing Criminal Code about six directives, which deal with: the criminal offenses of money laundering and terrorist financing, the review of the legal framework for terrorist offenses; the review of the legal framework related to trafficking in human beings; the review of the legal framework related to victims of trafficking in human beings and their protection; the review of the legal framework related to weapons; the review of the legal framework related to sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography; the review of the legal framework related to defamation”, said Manja.
Manja said that the consultation process for these amendments will be conducted separately from the consultation process for the draft of the new Criminal Code.
“These amendments will be reflected in the current Criminal Code and will be part of the draft of the new Code when it is on the Parliamentary agenda.”
“Since this process is a duty and is related to the fulfillment of our obligations regarding the negotiations for the “Fundamentals” cluster, it will be a separate process”, said Manja. /m.q//a.f//r.e/p.s./
