TIRANA, Aug 17 /ATA/ – Albania is expected to open its two remaining EU accession negotiation clusters this autumn, with an intergovernmental conference planned for September, Deputy Economy Minister Enkelejd Musabelliu told public broadcaster RTSH on Sunday.
“The procedural steps are complete and Albania has been invited to submit its position on the two remaining clusters, and the joint conference with the European Commission is expected this autumn to formally open negotiations on these chapters,” Musabelliu said.
He added that Albania should be ready to maximize the benefits of EU membership. “We must prepare to take full advantage of access to a market of 450 million consumers. The alignment of our legislation with the EU’s will not be so drastic as to create obstacles for specific businesses,” he said.
Musabelliu noted that accession is mainly a matter of timing and transposing EU laws.
“This process should not intimidate Albania. Legislative alignment is achievable, especially with the strong political will on both sides. As a society, we must prepare to reap the greatest possible benefits from EU membership,” he said.
