TIRANA, Aug 11 /ATA/ – Albanian authorities reported 38 wildfire outbreaks across the country over the past 24 hours, with 14 still active, the Defence Ministry said on Monday.

Firefighting operations have involved 68 fire trucks and 601 personnel, supported by 183 military troops, three army fire engines and three military helicopters.

Two Canadair water-bombing aircraft from Croatia and Italy have joined the effort, with the Croatian plane intervening since early morning in Synej, near the town of Rrogozhinë.

The United Arab Emirates has made two Black Hawk helicopters available, while Czech and Slovak air force helicopters have operated from the Kuçova base toward the Gramsh area.

Weather forecasters expect no rain, with a “high” wildfire risk across all regions and “very high” risk in parts of Shkodër, Lezhë and Elbasan districts.

Temperatures are expected to reach up to 42 degrees Celsius in lowland areas. Authorities urged residents to take extra care during the heatwave and to immediately report any fires to local authorities.
