Unified medical prescription, Koçiu: More safety for patients, less bureaucracy for physicians

TIRANA, August 5/ATA/ Since August 1, Albania has introduced the unified medical prescription which has come into force in the entire healthcare system, both public and private.

Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu shared today in the social media the opinions of several pharmacists who appreciate this new initiative.

“The pharmacists, who are at the service of citizens every day, confirm that we have taken another step forward in improving healthcare services. Since August 1, the medical prescription in the unique format is being used throughout the country,” wrote Koçiu.

According to her, this ensures more safety for patients, less bureaucracy for doctors and pharmacists, as well as more accurate treatment and follow-up.

A pharmacist praised this innovation, while stating that the unified prescription will facilitate work in the daily process.

“It is positive because it contains all the elements that we have wanted so far to be accurate until the full execution of the prescription. The young pharmacists find it easier to determine the name of the drug and the dose correctly. So it is written in the active principle and this leaves no room for error at any moment”, she said.

The pharmacist asked all health institutions that have the right to issue prescriptions to be able to unify this medical prescription, so that pharmacists can implement it carefully.

Another pharmacist also appreciated the new format of the medical prescription.

“It is truly a modest investment in the communication between the doctor and the pharmacist. The novelty of this prescription is that it has some data about the patient, the acute or chronic diagnosis. Patients who are chronically ill present themselves with this document and for 6 months it is not necessary to present themselves to the doctor to get it again”, he said.

Also, each new drug name will be written in the active principle.

“This brings security in terms of reading by the pharmacist, as there are cases when there are similar trade names and they can be misunderstood,” he added. /m.m/a.f/p.s./
