New Criminal Code, Rama: Experts’ draft released for public feedback

TIRANA, Aug 4 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday addressed controversies over the draft of the new Criminal Code.
In a statement shared on social media, Prime Minister Rama affirmed that “the draft, developed by distinguished experts in the field, has been made publicly available with the explicit purpose of collecting feedback in the most democratic and transparent manner possible.”

“Those raising alarm over the draft of the new Criminal Code and claiming that it aims to legally silence pro-freedom political and media voices might do well to avoid excessive exposure to the sun,” stated the Prime Minister. He added that “the draft, prepared by esteemed experts in the field, has been released specifically to gather all viewpoints in the most democratic and transparent manner possible.”
Rama stressed that “at present, the greatest challenge to freedom in Albania is not the regime, nor the draft of the new Criminal Code, but rather the considerable number of individuals who exploit freedom merely to stir controversy and outrage over its alleged suppression.”
