TIRANA, July 14 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with deputies, ministers, and political leaders of the Socialist Party for Tirana to discuss local performance as part of the “Albania 2030” vision and the path toward EU integration.
In his speech, Rama also addressed the situation in Theth, stating that around 300 unauthorized buildings in the area have been legalized.
“We have not let anyone down. Together with the mayor, the Albanian Development Fund, and the Land Registry Agency, we visited Theth and, from the very beginning, pledged to legalize all the old houses there—a matter of great importance to the local community. This process is now completed, with around 300 properties legalized, giving residents full ownership of their homes in the Theth area,” Rama stated.
“Our pledge was to legalise the properties of the ancestors. Neither we nor any of our representatives anywhere in Albania have ever promised that voting would greenlight unauthorized construction,” Rama emphasized.
“The buildings that have been completely demolished were constructed in recent months and do not date back to when we visited the area. There has been a scramble for construction in Theth recently, not only by some local residents but also by individuals with no roots to the region who went there to build,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
“We have completed the legalizations and fulfilled the urban planning commitments as promised. Funding has also been secured to transform the central area of Theth, which is a protected zone. Despite claims suggesting that we are opening the way for oligarchs—though there are none in Albania—this is not about authorizing construction or developing tourist resorts. Such options are entirely off the table,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
