Authorities report 16 wildfires, four still active across Albania

TIRANA, July 9 /ATA/ – Albania’s Ministry of Defence reported Wednesday that 16 wildfires had been recorded across the country in the past 24 hours, with four still active.

Blazes were recorded in multiple municipalities across Albania, including Vlorë, Dibër, and Fier. The most critical remain near Orikum in southern Albania and within Lurë National Park in the north of the country.

Roughly 24 hectares of vegetation, mainly consisting of trees, bushes, and grassland, have been destroyed.

Authorities have mobilized 31 firefighting vehicles and 268 personnel, including 60 armed forces members, two military fire engines, and aerial support from the Cougar helicopter.

The Geological Institute forecasts light to moderate rainfall in the Shkodër and Lezhë regions, with lighter precipitation expected elsewhere. Fire risk remains “low” in Shkodër, “moderate” in Kukës, and “high” in other regions.

Civil protection crews remain fully mobilized, in coordination with all relevant agencies, to monitor and respond swiftly to any fire outbreaks in order to minimize environmental damage and protect human life.

The Ministry of Defence has urged citizens to avoid activities that could ignite fires, to report any outbreaks immediately, and to cooperate with authorities to protect lives, property, and Albania’s natural heritage.
