TIRANA, July 1 /ATA/ A summit is being held on Tuesday in Skopje, North Macedonia, bringing together leaders from the Western Balkans and senior European Union officials, within the framework of the EU’s Growth Plan for the region.
The Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, stated that there is a clear consensus on enlargement, which was not the case in the past, but “the window of opportunity will not remain open forever.”
Kos congratulated Albania on the opening of negotiation clusters and emphasized that if work continues at this pace, all chapters could be opened this year.
“For the first time in Europe’s history, if we carry out the enlargement process properly, we can achieve the unification of our Europe—and Europe cannot be united without the Western Balkans. I want to be very clear: Today, there is a clear consensus in favor of enlargement—this has not always been the case in the past—but the window of opportunity cannot remain open forever. We are witnessing significant progress.”
“Albania, dear Prime Minister Edi Rama, has opened three negotiation clusters over the past six months. Thank you for your contribution to the success of the enlargement process. If we continue with the same dedication, we will be able to open all negotiation chapters this year. And I look forward to celebrating together the opening of the final cluster this autumn,” said Kos.
