TIRANA, June 26 /ATA/ – Construction work is underway to expand the main access road to Ksamil, a popular coastal destination in Albanian Riviera, in a project designed to ease traffic flow during the busy tourist season, Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Belinda Balluku said Friday.
According to Balluku, the first 1.6 kilometers will be widened and be transformed into three-lane road to improve vehicle circulation, while the remaining 2.6 kilometers will be built as a two-lane Category C interurban road. The project includes sidewalks, bicycle lanes, full road signage, lighting, and several small-scale engineering structures.
“The Ksamil road is one of the most heavily traveled tourist routes in Albania,” Balluku said during an inspection of the construction site. So far, 30% of the work has been completed, with the full project scheduled for completion by April 2026.
The upgraded route passes through residential and scenic areas and is intended to handle the growing number of domestic and international visitors. Balluku emphasized the importance of meeting contractual deadlines to ensure the road is operational ahead of the 2026 summer season.
Balluku added that plans are underway for a new coastal highway connecting the Llogara Tunnel to the coastal city of Saranda, as part of a broader strategy to support tourism and regional connectivity.
