Berisha: Ballot stuffing and box swapping in polling stations

TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, spoke again today from the party headquarters, referring to the May 11 parliamentary elections as a “sham.”

Berisha asserted that the electoral sham remains a central concern within the Assembly of the Council of Europe.
“For the past three days, the electoral sham has been the burning issue in the plenary sessions, as well as in the meetings of groups and committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe is an institution founded on two main pillars: free elections and the rule of law,” Berisha said.

Berisha shared information that, according to him, substantiates the claim of “electoral sham.” He alleged that ballot boxes were stuffed outside the polling stations and then exchanged on site.

Berisha reported that the investigation of opened ballot boxes reveals serious doubts about electoral fraud, including ballot stuffing and box swapping, supporting the Democratic Party’s concerns.

According to Berisha, “these were the documents from 12 polling stations, and under no circumstances can these boxes be accepted as the genuine ballot boxes of the polling stations, but rather as boxes that were swapped or brought from the Socialist Party headquarters or even from the illegal patronage centers themselves.”
