TIRANA, June 26 /ATA/ – The Local Directorate for Border and Migration, the Special Unit “DELTA,” and the Montenegrin Border Police launched Thursday a multi-agency, international operational plan named “LAKE 2025” aimed at intensified patrols in the waters of Shkodër district and along the Albania-Montenegro land border.
Supported by FRONTEX, the operation also involved the Administration of Shkodër Lake National Park.
According to police, the main objectives of the plan include preventing illegal activities in the water area – such as drug and arms trafficking, illegal border crossings, and environmental crimes; increasing safety for residents and tourists; strengthening control over border zones; identifying problematic points along land and water borders; sharing operational information with regional partners; and combating the cultivation of narcotic plants.
Patrols focus on heavily trafficked waterways including Lake Shkodër and the Buna River, as well as strategic land and water points along the Albania-Montenegro border.
During the plan’s initial phase, authorities inspected boat documentation, safety equipment, compliance with approved routes, and adherence to water traffic regulations.
Police highlighted that the collaboration demonstrates strong institutional cooperation aimed at ensuring public safety, preventing illegal activities, and boosting trust among citizens and tourists toward police structures.
