NCPA Reports Two Active Fire Hotspots in Vlora and Kukes; Fire-Extinguishing Efforts Underway

TIRANA, June 24 /ATA/ The National Civil Emergency Operations Center, part of the National Civil Protection Agency, reported seven fire hotspots across Albania in recent hours. Five fires have been fully extinguished, while two remain active.

The National Civil Protection Agency (AKMC) confirms that response units have been engaged in continuous operations to contain and suppress fire outbreaks across several sites, achieving significant mitigation outcomes.
In the village of Ndërfan, part of the Rrëshen administrative unit in Mirditë municipality, and in the Astir area of Tirana, fire incidents have been successfully contained and completely extinguished.

Furthermore, fire suppression operations were successfully completed in the “Ish-Fidanishtja” neighborhood of Vlorë, the village of Amonicë within the Sevaster administrative unit of Selenicë, and the village of Shijon in Bradashesh, Elbasan.

Currently, active fires are located in the regions of Vlorë and Kukës. In Himarë, the wildfires at Porto Palermo and the Qafë Lerë-Llaman area have been extinguished. However, in the village of Kudhës, at a site known as Vumlo, the fire, after initial containment, reignited due to wind and high temperatures, creating significant challenges for intervention because of the rugged terrain.

Response units from the Fire Protection, the Forestry Service, and local operators are employing available resources and backpack pumps to contain the fires, prioritizing the protection of residential zones.

In Kukës, ongoing suppression operations are underway in the village of Kolsh, Mamëz administrative unit, targeting a fire at the municipal waste disposal facility.

The response operation is supported by the deployment of two fire engines staffed with 10 personnel, alongside one front loader, one excavator, and four support trucks from the Directorate of Municipal Services.
