TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ Work is underway in Xara, Saranda for the construction of a new electrical substation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, visited the construction site today, emphasizing the project’s significance for the entire region.
“This is an important project for the entire area, enhancing security, capacity, and improving service quality,” said Deputy Prime Minister Balluku.
The investment, set to be completed in the early months of the coming year, addresses the needs of residents and businesses in the area, facilitating its development as well.
The new substation will serve not only the residents of Xarra and Konispol but also the tourist area of Ksamil, which experiences increased traffic during the summer season. Approximately 7,000 subscribers will receive service through this substation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, together with the Administrator of Distribution System Operator, Blendian Dalipi, saw first-hand the progress of the ongoing works at the construction site of the new substation.
“It is a completely new substation, scheduled for completion in May 2026 according to the contract. Given the current progress, as with other sites, we aim to finish it in the first quarter of next year. This is a 110/20 kV substation with a capacity of 50 megawatts, which means an eightfold increase compared to the existing substation,” explained Dalipi.
Deputy Prime Minister Balluku highlighted the importance of building this new substation, noting that it will greatly enhance the electricity supply across the southern region, with the volume of activity increasing significantly in the midst of tourist season.
“The entire southern region now significantly multiplies its population from May to October. On the other hand, it is also an important area in terms of agriculture. We have discussed from the very beginning that energy in this region should not only serve the residents—speaking of 7,000 subscribers benefiting from this project—but also all the tourism units, whether hotels or restaurants, as well as all agricultural units established in the area,” emphasized Balluku.
Regarding the tourist season and electricity supply, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy emphasized that the situation has remained entirely stable and reliable to date. She also noted that, with the peak of the tourist season approaching in the coming weeks, precautionary measures have already been put in place to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of high-quality services.
