Langarica Canyon, a natural gem amid cliffs and thermal waters

TIRANA, June 15 /ATA/ – Located approximately 15 kilometers northeast of the town of Përmet, Langarica Canyon is one of southern Albania’s most remarkable natural assets. Part of the “Bredhi i Hotovës–Dangëlli” National Park (Hotova-Dangelli Fir), the 5-kilometer-long canyon offers a stunning landscape where towering rock formations meet thermal waters.

Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday shared scenic images of Langarica Canyon, a major tributary that feeds the upper sources of the Vjosa River. The canyon  is home to a rare and largely untouched natural setting that remains relatively unexplored.

Situated above the village of Stërmbec, south of Përmet, the canyon carves a hidden path through the forests and mountains of the Dangëlli region. Its proximity to natural thermal springs makes it an appealing destination for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts seeking to experience the area’s natural beauty and water resources.

Over time, the forceful flow of the Langarica River has sculpted this dramatic canyon, known locally as the “blessed river.” The view it offers is both grand and vibrant, turning the site into an open-air natural gallery.

The area captivates visitors year-round: in spring, it bursts with greenery and floral scents; in summer, sunlight illuminates the rocky terrain; in autumn, the landscape is painted in vivid hues; and in winter, a quiet, snow-covered stillness lends the canyon a sense of mystery.

Even during the coldest months, when the river takes on a deep hue, Langarica Canyon remains a distinctive destination. The combination of high cliffs and icy waters creates a unique atmosphere, establishing it as one of Albania’s most captivating natural wonders.
