Regional e-commerce eased, Albania moves towards aligning with EU standardards

TIRANA, June 12 /ATA/ – Albania has ratified a CEFTA Joint Committee decision aimed at facilitating electronic commerce across the region, making another step towards regional integration and market digitization.

The new framework, approved by Parliament, harmonizes legal standards among CEFTA member states to support the free movement of digital services, strengthen consumer protection, and boost trust in online transactions.

Key provisions include clearer consumer rights in online contracts, mandatory pre-contract information, a 14-day withdrawal period, delivery within 30 days, and rules ensuring transparency and product conformity.

The measure is expected to improve Albania’s consumer protection laws, promote alternative dispute resolution in the digital sector, and enhance cooperation with regional authorities.

Adopted on October 9, 2024, the decision aligns with EU standards and supports the creation of a regional digital single market in the Western Balkans.
