Berisha in Brussels: EP report condemns electoral farce

TIRANA, June 4 /ATA/ The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated on Wednesday that the report on Albania by the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) called out the May 11 elections as a farce.

In a media briefing from Brussels, Berisha stated that “the report branded Edi Rama’s regime as one that disregards the rule of law and tramples upon the fundamental rights, including the right to information, freedom of expression, and property right.

“The report draws attention to political influence on the justice system, raising serious concerns over a significant backlog of court cases — a situation seen as undermining fair legal process for Albanian citizens,” he said

Berisha highlighted that the report implicitly criticizes the strategic investment law while firmly backing the demands of Albanian landowners.
The Democratic Party leader reported that at today’s EPP Political Assembly, MEP and EPP group coordinator Gahler voiced strong support for the OSCE/ODIHR report’s allegations, especially condemning the role of organized crime in the elections and its ties to Albanian politics
