Starmer: Putin is not serious about peace; he is dragging his heels

TIRANA, May 16 /ATA/ British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated today in Tirana, “Putin is not serious about peace and is dragging his heels.”

In a media statement following his reception by Prime Minister Edi Rama at the European Political Community Summit held today in Tirana, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, when asked about Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, said, “What we saw yesterday is yet another proof that confirms Putin is not serious about peace and is dragging his heels.”

He stated, “It is necessary, therefore, that we maintain absolute unity with our allies, and we will discuss this further today to ensure clarity on reaching a ceasefire. Additionally, if we do not act together on sanctions, there will be no ceasefire.”

Starmer stated, “Today is a significant and genuine opportunity to work with colleagues to ensure complete unity. President Zelensky will be here, and we will discuss this with him.”

When asked about the progress of discussions regarding the reset with the bloc, the British Prime Minister stated, “In fact, over the past two weeks, you have seen a trade agreement with India and the U.S., which is very important. I believe this will continue. On Monday, something significant will happen—it will be a crucial moment to improve the lives of working people. This is very positive as we anticipate Monday’s summit.”
