TIRANA, May 11/ATA/ European Union Delegation Ambassador to Albania Silvio Gonzato was today at the polling station located in the premises of the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana to closely follow the voting process for the Parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters, Gonzato highlighted the significance that these elections have for Albania’s journey towards the European Union.
Gonzato said that, “It is very important not only for me, but also for my colleagues from the EU member states to see how the elections are going and see it in person by visiting the polling stations”.
“These are the first elections held in Albania after opening of the EU accession negotiation process. You are aware that the negotiations were opened with the first cluster, the ‘Fundamentals’, which is related to the rule of law, democratic standards and elections”, emphasized Gonzato.
Ambassador Gonzato stated that, “The election process is not only about voting day, but everything has to do with the elections both before and after. There is also the OSCE-ODIHR mission, which has its observers and we will rely on their findings and recommendations”.
Gonzato addressed the Albanian citizens with a message.
“Turn out and vote because your vote is very important for democracy, but also for Albania’s progress towards its membership in the European Union,” said Gonzato. /k.s/ /a.g/p.s./
