Celibashi: Delays in ballot distribution will not affect integrity of diaspora vote, 156 cases reported

TIRANA, May 6 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – The State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi has highlighted a series of problems that have emerged in Albania’s first-ever external voting process, after reported ballot distribution and return delays linked to the international courier DHL.

However, Celibashi stated in a press conference on Tuesday that the delays and current problems do not affect the integrity of the diaspora vote.

Celibashi underlined that the Central Election Commission (CEC) will assess whether the courier DHL, which has been contracted to handle ballot distribution and return, has actually delivered and implemented the contract with the central election body.

He said that CEC has taken into consideration all the complaints forwarded by the political parties regarding the ballot distribution, especially in Greece.

Celibashi announced that 156 cases of failure to distribute the ballot papers have been reported to CEC so far. He also announced that some 21 000 envelopes have yet to be delivered to the addresses of the registered voters from the Albanian diaspora.
